Mjreynolds928. Thanks. I changed the plugs and filters and put clean fuel with SeaFoam. I did the VRO bypass and mixed oil in with fuel. The boat ran better but somewhere between 2000-3000 rpm the motor shakes a little as if it’s struggling. Anywhere before and after that range it purrs like a kitten.

The pointer is called a timing fixture but it is really a tool to adjust the ignition to fire as close as possible to 180 degrees apart. Any kind of a tool would work as long as it was straight and fasten to the crankshaft If you set one set of points you could put the pointer between the marks.

Look up underneath the edge of the flywheel and see if mark "a" on the flywheel is lined up with mark "b" on the timing plate base. That is full advanced.
