But the 39 was in priduction from 1921 to 1938. Initially serial numbers had no prefix. Then the “S” prefix followed. After that came the HS prefix. so your is in the latter part. If original, your front sight might help narrow it down but there are ni records by year matching up serial numbers. How is the bore and the condition of yours?
As far as the 'L' serial number i saw conflicting documentation. one says 1953 the other said 1954. I saw the patent on the Micro groove was filed in 1953 but most 1954 rifles were the ones first came out with the MICRO GROOVE barrels. The Genfield's used the same serial numbers as the Marlin's. The model 57, might have a 2 letter code on the barrel, if so you can go to the part on the serial number sheets, that says Non 39A's 22's. This will only work if it it was made between 1962 and early 1968. Otherwise there were no serial numbers on non 39A's 22's, from 1935- 1968.
