Browning changed the 16ga serial numbers in 1953, to a code, to differentiate between standard & lightweight 16ga A-5's - your Sweet 16 was made in 1955. . Logon to the Internet and locate the home page of Browning firearms. On their web site the company provides precise charts showing date of manufacture of all of its models according to serial number. During WWII, Remington supplied Browning with shotguns because FN in Belgium was occupied by the Nazis. These guns are actually the Model 11 with a cutoff and Browning markings and engraving. The serial number appears on the side of the receiver rather than on the bottom, and the prefix indicates gauge, A=16 etc.
