Basically when starting the car, hold in the trip meter reset button for about 10 seconds or so. Dealer can reset it too when you go for service. It's nothing sophisticated, it's just based on time and mileage. I just got gas yesterday, so my bet is/was a loose gas cap, but I tightened that, still the light flashes.
