I never thought to look for the JM stamp on it. I know that they were made from the 50s till some time in the 60s. Sounds like your rifle could be a JM as not all JM stamps were perfectly executed. A pic of the stamp and serial number would clear things up. This old thread has some PDF files attached to the first post that should help with the serial number ID.
