People will recommend Silver Ridge Peaks, but it's one of the weaker maps in that regard: repetitive landscape, and awful graphics because the CoTW engine isn't good for long distance (landscapes doesn't render fully past around 75 meters). I love Medved Taiga, it's arguably the most beautiful map, with a unique setting and incredible mood.

Layton Lake is probably the best for beginners. There's lots of animals and many of them are lower classes and relatively easy to kill. It also doesn't have any animals that will actively try to kill you. Just don't try to take on elk or moose with the starter rifle. Others have had their Whitetail or Red Deer GO as an initial spawn without killing any deer at all. So shoot every stag you see without deleting need zones, disregarding levels. More kills equals more respawns which in turn equals faster and more dice rolls at spawning a GO. Aight, tho herd management does spawn more diamonds as people using it ... Hirschfelden - Beautiful map, first off. However, the foliage density, especially at most drink zones, make this quite a difficult map to hunt. Lots of little hills and dense bushes coupled with the fact that most animals are small enough to be hidden here makes this difficult to hunt most times. Te Awora, seems like each lake has multiple drink zones and I see huge herds of seemingly 20+ deer quite regularly. Side note, that map has a tendency to crash, so be careful. I'd suggest claiming your harvests soon after killing them so as not to risk a crash before you can do so.So you start by shooting all middle tier animals. For WT that's L2, for Moose L4 and L3 (maybe keep the L3 with the wonky rack that are < 150TR, also keep diamond potential L4). For Red Deer and Black Bear shot L5-L8. They help locate animals and can help predict hunt times, but it is not the best way to find trophies. Surveying animals is the best way. Refrain from shooting until you spot a worthy trophy.
