Split damage is not bad here as it still hits like a truck. And one of the best PvE greatswords for melee quality build is Mastodon Greatsword imo. This bad boy is found in Drangleic Castle but can also drop pretty early from Mastodon Warriors or spiders in Brightstone Cove. Slower and heavier but more damaging. 2.Two Greatswords. Greatsword is one of the best. Not sure where you are in the game but I love the kings ultra greatsword. It's not really a sword but a statue with strike damage. It also does 3 Durability damage to enemies rings and armor. It requires 50 str to one hand and has the second highest AR in the game.

Lightning infusion is suggested because it's best on average (and is rarely bad). But a Magic infusion/ Crystal Magic weapon buff is better against Elana for instance. A dark infusion, Dark Weapon is the way to go against Giant Lord. It's just that trying to go in optimally in every fight is generally not worth the bother.
