Dec 17, 2023 · In the past month, when I’m downshifting using the exhaust brake to slow down, it will jump to 4th gear and stay there. I’ll pull over, shut the truck off, restart and take off again and it’s back to normal. Ram Year. 2016 Ram 2500. Engine. Hemi 6.4 4.10. I was towing ~7000 lbs and going down a 2 mile grade @50mph. Truck was in tow/haul mode and had 5th gear selected. Braking down the grade toward bottom of grade transmission down shifted to 2nd gear and rpm was ~4700. I am not hard on the truck and changed the fluid and filters at 100k. It doesnt make any attempt to move in drive, but also doesnt make any noises.
