If you have say, 20 pods on you, you can hold q, (Lb+up on xbox) and pod your tames without ever needing to open your inventory. Makes cleaning up your yard/popping out tons of tames a breeze.

You can't change the tether. It's a limitation of consoles that they don't have the power to load the entire map.
