AFAIK, the Winchester 980 fps load can only be duplicated with WaaLite powder. The Hodgdon site still lists loads for WaaLite, but it is no longer manufactured. You can find data for subsonic loads, and they will recoil less than a standard 1200 fps load, but the 980 load was and is a one off load. I've attached Ballistics pdf on subsonic loads.

A few years ago I decided to try 7/8 oz, loads so I merely changed to a CB0178-12 wad and a 7/8 oz. charge bar, and loaded away. I was astonished at the performance of that load, as well as the very noticeable reduction in recoil. AND, it cycles my 1100 Remington quite nicely.
