I have an M1A with an old 1967 NM standard weight barrel that shoots as good as my heavy match barrels, at least up to the first 20 or 30 rds. I would do things like a trigger job ($50) and utilize the gas cylinder first, and not mess with the barrel in a standard M1A until other accuracy enhancements were done. At 100 and 200 yards, it is "dead-on" accurate. I have not been able to get to a range in my area that has a longer distance. IMHO, it is well worth the extra money.
