stihl 028 wb top end The previous poster was correct. The Stihl 028 did come in three different sizes, 42mm, 44mm, and a 46mm. The early 028 wb came with the 42mm. The 028 av and 028 super came with a 44mm and then a 46mm on the super. However, if your 028 wb has the 42mm it is NOT interchangeable with the 44mm and 46mm p/c, due to the rod length.

While rebiulding these saws I have found many differences between the 2 models. The mufflers on the 2 saws are not the same. A Wood Boss Muffler can be made to fit a WB. You have to wire the top portion of the muffler to the bottom. The Flywheel covers are different. One cover has 3 holes the other has 4. Runs good when cutting but when going to idle it is very inconsistent. Either wont idle or wont slow down. I put my fairly new 18" .325 bar from my 361 and a new yellow (74) chain on the 028 a few weeks ago, after I upgraded my 361 to a 20" bar.
